Has it been 5 years already?

On September 15, 2018, The Geek Room opened its doors for the first time. In those first days, we sometimes questioned if we had made a mistake, as we listed games for nights, hoping that people would give us a chance and come into our store. Then people did. They started coming in and playing and shopping in our store. Communities that are known to spread their games around throughout the month (like Pathfinder) added us to their calendars. Folks who lived in our area came in to see us more and more. We had more faces that we were seeing on a regular basis, and our communities were growing.

Then COVID hit. We were worried, but we were determined to find ways to make it work. Between adding curbside pickup and shop by appointment, we were able to continue to meet some of the community's needs. You stepped up and continued to shop with us, and showed off what you were working on through social media. We were also honored to highlight the work of 3D printers who stepped up to print and donate items to those on the front line of the battle against COVID.

As we got more freedom, we reopened further, first by doing Gaming By Appointment, allowing folks to come in and game, but keep the numbers low.

Finally, we were able to open back up for gaming. You followed rules by masking, allowing us to stay open without any serious incidents. We were back, you came back, and our numbers (thanks to a lot of new people who discovered gaming during lockdowns) grew.

You have been with us and each other through good times, a global pandemic, medical emergencies, and loss. We wouldn't be here without you. The Geek Room community, and the local gaming community as a whole, is amazing, and we are thrilled to be among you.

Thank you for 5 years. Here's to many more!
